Wytrzyszczka
Nature

Czchowskie Lake (Czchowski Water Reservoir) is a retention reservoir, created in the mid-20th century as a result of damming the Dunajec River on the dam in Czchów, which spills north of Lake Rożnowskie, for which it is an equalizing reservoir. It starts above the village of Tropie, that is 4 km above the dam, is 750 m wide and covers 346 ha. The lake is elongated in the north-east direction, its shoreline is poorly developed, and its shores are steep and forested. The edge of the Czchowskie Lake performs tourist and recreational functions. It is a very interesting and secluded corner with a walking track and bicycle paths. In the village of Wytrzyszczka, a ferry runs to the other shore. Lake Czchowskie has many functions, the most important of which are: flood protection (reducing the flood wave of the Dunajec and the Vistula), energy, recreation, tourism and shipping.

The ruins of the castle and the tower in Czchów

Czchów
Culture

The ruins of the castle and the tower in Czchów are very well-kept and renovated remnants of a medieval royal stronghold, situated on a hill and dating from the 13th-14th centuries. This castle was located in this place to control the trade route running along the Dunajec, it housed a customs house for goods imported from Hungary, and the brick tower served as a defensive. Its walls housed primarily a land court, and in the 18th century a prison, which was liquidated after the first partition of Poland in 1772. The restoration of the tower, the construction of the guard's building and the discovery of the defensive walls was possible thanks to the financial resources of the Czchów commune. Currently, the guard's building houses an archaeological exhibition, a model of the castle and a souvenir shop, and at the top of the castle there is a vantage point with a vast panorama of the Dunajec Valley. The facility is open to visitors from May 1 to October 31.

The Tropsztyn Castle in Wytrzyszczka

Wytrzyszczka
Culture

The Tropsztyn Castle in Wytrzyszczka is a reconstruction of a defensive stronghold, erected on a steep peninsula flooded on three sides by the Dunajec River in the Czchów commune, the history of which is related to the village of Tropie, located on the opposite side of the river. The origins of the castle date back to the 13th century, when wooden buildings probably stood here, and the builder of the brick fortress was the Gierałtów-Ośmiorogi family. At the end of the fourteenth century, the castle passed into the hands of the knight Chebda, whose family ruled the stronghold until the sixteenth century. With time it began to decline, and at the beginning of the 17th century it burned down and was already described as a ruin. In 1863, the first archaeological excavations were carried out here, and in 1970 it was taken over by the Benesz family, who gradually rebuilt it over the next years, without using any flammable materials for this purpose (so that it would survive for centuries). Speaking of Tropsztyn, one cannot fail to mention the legend of the so-called the Inca treasure, which was supposed to be hidden here in the 18th century, and thus about the curse affecting all those who want to find it.
