Since 1967, the Crater in Vyšné Ružbachy has been included among the protected natural formations of Slovakia. The water in the Crater is clear and has about 23 ° C. Bathing is forbidden, but many visitors do not follow this rule. The crater is decorated around a white travertine wall, which comes from the deposition of calcium, for which the thermal water in the crater is very rich. The surroundings of the lake are nicely landscaped.

The history of the village is connected with the monastery, which was founded in 1319 by the master Kakaš Berzevici, the heir and at that time the owner of almost all the property in northwestern Spiš. The monastery was the seat of the Carthusians and in the years 1704 - 1782 the order of Kamalddulovs lived here. In the years 1956 - 1966, the state ensured the restoration of this national cultural monument and opened the monastery to the public. The Red Monastery near the village of Červený Kláštor was inhabited by monks of the Carthusian and Kamaldul order.
