Description

The monument „To those who died in the struggle to consolidate the people's power” in Cisna is located in one of the most characteristic places in the Bieszczady Mountains, where the main tourist trail of the Beskids runs. In the center of Cisna, on the Bethlehem Hill, there is a monument from 1965, devoted to „the fallen in the struggle to consolidate the people's power”. In the years 1945-46, it housed a civic militia station, attacked by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. 9 militiamen and 15 members of the village guard from mid-1945 defended the post, and the decisive assault took place on the night of January 11-12, 1946, as a result of which the Bandera followers suffered a defeat. The outpost turned out to be the only outpost in the Bieszczady Mountains that had not been conquered by the Banderites. The monument was rebuilt in 1982. Stone blocks with images of fighting soldiers and militiamen and the names of the places where the battles with UPA bands took place were built. In 2017, a new plaque was placed: „Defenders of Cisna and the Neighborhood in 1944-47 against the Ukrainian Insurgent Army – Community of the Cisna Commune”.
